President Obama’s architects have revealed a proposed design of his presidential library, which critics promptly blasted as a “giant toe” towering above a “putt-putt course.”
One critic in particular, the Chicago Tribune’s Ron Grossman, also lambasted the library’s proposed “test kitchen” and “yoga studio,” suggesting that Obama is trying to rebrand his legacy as a “healthy-eating and meditation-advocating president.”
“The renderings for your museum are ‘little plans,’ more likely to congeal than stir blood,” he wrote. “Community groups worry about losing acres of Jackson Park to the site of your museum.”
Grossman is referring to the fact that the Obama Foundation is taking away land from an existing public park, which is listed on the National Register of historic places, for the library.
The foundation described the takeover as a “revitalization of historic Jackson Park.”
Grossman also likened the centerpiece tower, the “giant toe” of the design, to a “soft-boiled egg” that’s “heavy around the midsection and tapering to a narrow top and bottom.”
Ironically, Grossman’s entire article suggested the library should be redesigned to emphasize emancipation, yet every other presidential library emphasizes that president’s supposed achievements in office – and Grossman never mentioned a single one of Obama’s.
A bit of unintentional truth, perhaps?
What’s also hilarious is that there are already several donation-based yoga classes in and around Jackson Park, so what the hell will the Obama library accomplish by stealing public land to build an eyesore of a yoga studio?
If you like your public park, you can keep your public park, apparently.
Maybe that’s the entire point of the Obama presidential library: an Obamacare-style takeover of public land at a significant cost to offer crap that already exists.
