CNN very publically refused to attend the White House Christmas Party (which had to be relief to everybody tired of Jim Acosta’s whining – “The waiter intentionally didn’t offer me mini-quiches!”) So it’s not surprising the network loves talking to others who, when it comes to Donald Trump, will take their ball and go home.
For instance, U.S. skier Lindsey Vonn. Anybody with an interest in skiing and a passing knowledge of Olympic history could probably think of a whole lot of interesting questions for Vonn. Not CNN’s Christina MacFarlane. Interviewing Vonn recently for CNN Sport’s “Alpine Edge,” MacFarlane just wanted to know whether Vonn hates Trump as much as she does. [Spoiler: she does.]
“How will it feel competing at an Olympic Games for United States, whose president is Donald Trump,” MacFarlane asked.
“Well I hope to represent the people of the United States, not the president.” Vonn said she takes the Olympics seriously and “I want to represent our country well. I don’t think that there are a lot of people currently in our government that do that.”
She also won’t go to the White House when the invitation comes. Good for her.
And good for Christina MacFarlane for identifying a little corner of American life that was insufficiently politicized and asking the question that was on nobody’s mind. This isn’t news. This is CNN.
