REPORT: Paul Ryan Says No Chance for Border Wall at Private Dinner

At a private dinner over the summer, Speaker Paul Ryan claimed Congressional support for a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico is non-existent. Only “one member” supports President Trump’s core campaign promise to build “the wall,” said Ryan.

Breitbart News report:

House Speaker Paul Ryan, at a private dinner earlier this year, said he thought only “one member” wanted to build a wall across the entire U.S.-Mexico border, Breitbart News has learned from multiple sources with direct knowledge of the comments, including former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO).

The dinner, sources said, took place on the eve of the House’s passage of two relatively minor immigration bills at the end of June: Kate’s Law and sanctuary city reforms. The far wider reaching Davis-Oliver Act was tabled at the same time.

“Ryan told a group of Republicans he met with … that only one person wants a wall,” Tancredo told Breitbart News shortly after the dinner.

Tancredo took issue with the Speaker’s characterization of support for the wall within the House GOP. “Of course he means only one person in his entourage and of the leadership,” he told Breitbart News. “I know several people in Congress who want a wall and I know that there are millions of Americans who want a wall.”

[…]

“The Chamber of Commerce doesn’t want a wall … the pressure is greater from the Chamber of Commerce than it is from the members,” Tancredo, who for years in the House fought a mostly fruitless battle to get Congress to combat the flood of illegal immigration, added.

From the moment Donald Trump stormed the political scene, the real estate billionaire had the GOP establishment shaking in its boots. Since Trump announced he was running for president, Speaker Paul Ryan has been one of the conductors steering the Never Trump train. Everything Ryan does in support of President Trump should be taken with a grain – very large grain – of salt. On August 1st, Ryan released a video advocating for President Trump’s border wall. Has hell frozen over or is Ryan paying lip service to the wall he is secretly trying to kill? It appears the ad was all a lie.

The video begins with Ryan entering a helicopter overseeing the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. “1,954 miles along America’s Souther border. It’s time for the wall”, reads the intro text.

Ryan narrates the ad, saying the following:

“I had the opportunity to travel down to Texas to the Rio Grande Valley to spend time with our border patrol. When you see what they’re up against, it really gives you an even greater respect for what they do. They clearly need more tools, more support to do their job, effectively. That’s why we’re going to get this done, this week.”

Paul Ryan’s primary opponent recently tweeted Ryan is working with Democrats to shut down government over building the proposed Trump border wall.
