Democratic Rep. John Lewis said President Trump would have never been elected to the White House if Martin Luther King Jr. was still alive.
During an appearance on the “The View” Monday, co-host Joy Behar asked Lewis, a civil rights icon, if he agreed that Trump would not be president if King was still living.
“I agree with you. If Martin Luther King had been alive, no. Dr. King would have been able to lead us to a different place,” the Georgia Democrat said.
Over the weekend, Lewis accused Trump of being a racist for his comments about “shithole countries” during a discussion on immigration.
Lewis also said he would not be attending Trump’s first State of the Union at the end of the month.
