Melania Trump on Charlottesville: We need to communicate without ‘hate in our hearts’

First lady Melania Trump condemned the protests by white supremacists in Charlottesville on Saturday, calling on Americans to communicate without “hate in our hearts.”

“Our country encourages freedom of speech, but let’s communicate w/o hate in our hearts. No good comes from violence,” she tweeted.

Local and state emergencies were declared in the city Saturday as clashes between white supremacists and counter-protesters turned violent.

The first lady weighed in on the protests before President Trump, who has been silent on the matter as of Saturday morning.

The White House did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Washington Examiner.
